Welcome from the President and Program Co-Chairs

Hey SSR! Start your planning to attend the 52nd SSR Annual Meeting in San Jose, California, USA.

The meeting’s theme, “Beyond Possible: Remarkable Transformation of Reproductive Biology” will have an outstanding series of plenary presentations, including talks on germ cell imprinting, DNA methylation, fetal and placental biology, embryo development, reproductive plasticity, and regenerative medicine. We promise a truly exciting program for the 52nd SSR Annual Meeting. With Carmen J. Williams and Masahito Ikawa as Program Co-Chairs, our program includes Plenary Lectures by Diana W. Bianchi, M.D., Gavin Kelsey, Ph.D., Kathy Niakan, Ph.D., Alejandro Sanchez Alvarado, Ph.D., Matthew Porteus, M.D., Janet Rossant, Ph.D. and Jeffrey F. Peipert, M.D., Ph.D.

The meeting begins on the 18th of July with a Keynote address and the Opening Reception. On the 18th-21st Concurrent Focus Sessions will follow morning poster sessions. Concurrent Focus Sessions will allow attendees to choose from a range of provocative topics. Each Focus Session will include 2 invited talks and 2 short talks selected from abstract submissions, providing prominent visibility for trainee and early-stage investigator presenters. Working with recommendations from Society membership, the Program Committee has chosen focus session speakers to present their cutting-edge research on a wide range of topics in reproductive biology. We will continue to have our trainee workshops and competitions, Heritage and Diversity Lectures, and Exchange Lectures from top scientists from our sister societies: ASRM, CFAS, SRB, SRF, and SRI.

This year, The SSR is proud to present, with support from the Gates Foundation, a two-part workshop on science communication to be presented by instructors from the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science.  This workshop, held on Monday, July 22nd, will highlight features of the “Alda Method,” honed by Alan Alda himself through his 11 years of hosting the PBS television series “Scientific American Frontiers” and improvisional techniques he developed in his 50 years of acting on stage and on screen.

We encourage you to join us and your colleagues to share exciting new data and network with colleagues and friends from over 30 countries.
